Or news from the section "Help, my device is broken" ...
We've all been there: the oscilloscope no longer works and you need a quick replacement. Or even better, your own quickly, means immediately, already yesterday ... No practical example?
At DESY, somehow it is. DESY is a research campus. Experiments are carried out here at an outstanding technical level. At the same time, DESY supports teaching, and physical experiments are also part of everyday life here.
A stroke of luck not only for electronic devices on campus is Andre Zimmer, who has been with DESY for over 30 years and is an expert for everything, really everything, electronic. He began by training as an industrial electronics technician specializing in equipment technology. He has been repairing electronics ever since. In the meantime, he has repaired over 5,000 devices! This is an incredible amount of experience and expertise that DESY has at its disposal. Andre Zimmer repairs all manufacturers and all types of devices, not just oscilloscopes: "From cheap to expensive and from complex to simple, I can repair anything within the limits of economic efficiency and my capabilities, and there is no such thing as 'obsolete' as long as the device is of use to the user."
It's easy to imagine that repairs are quicker on campus than when the equipment is sent to the manufacturer. And if it does take longer or devices are only needed for a short time: Measurement and laboratory equipment such as analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal and frequency generators, laboratory power supplies and much more are also available for loan.
We are delighted about this opportunity at DESY and hope that it will continue for a long time to come, because repairing and reusing is an important part of sustainability.
